Art and Medicine
🎨👩🏾‍⚕️

True nursing care requires both the head and the heart. I seek to connect my clinical science knowledge with the humanities to provide holistic, innovative, and patient-centered care.

As an undergraduate at Duke University, my academic studies were at the nexus of global public health and visual storytelling. Since graduation, I have continued to explore healthcare from an artist's perspective as a clinical researcher and nursing student. Below you will find projects that highlight my ability to connect medicine with the arts in imaginative ways at the bedside and beyond.

Nursing School Doodles

I am visual learner. As such, I have been doodling to study for my exams in nursing school. Click here to see examples of my notes and study guides for Pharmacology and Medical-Surgical Care. I hope to continue to apply my drawing and visual communication skills in the health care space as an educational tool for patients, students, and health care workers.

Project Greenlight

For two years I worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator for the GreenlightPlus Study, a national childhood obesity-prevention clinical trial. As a part of my role, I supported the design of educational booklets for the parents/caregivers of infants in both English and Spanish. I also directed and edited training videos for health care providers on patient communication best practices.

I directed and edited educational videos for a primary care-based group parenting program for Spanish-speaking parents piloted in the UNC Chapel Hill and the University of Pennsylvania medical systems.

Ebola in Liberia

As Duke Center for Documentary Studies Fellow, I directed and produced a short documentary film on the Ebola epidemic in Liberia. I interviewed Ebola survivors, health workers, and community leaders on how Liberians paired medical best practices with culturally-informed public health communication to end the epidemic. The film was screened at the American Public Health Association's annual conference in 2017.

Sesame Street

I completed a summer internship at Sesame Workshop, the creator of the acclaimed children's educational TV show Sesame Street. Working in the International Social Impact department, I supported the development of public health materials, scripts, and videos for international Sesame Street projects partnered with leading public health organizations such as  UNICEF, World Vision, and USAID.
